Anti-Bullying Policy
St.Albans City ABC is committed to creating a supportive, respectful, and safe environment for all members. We believe that all participants, staff, and volunteers have the right to be free from bullying and harassment. This policy outlines our club’s zero-tolerance stance towards bullying, the measures in place to prevent it, and the procedures for addressing incidents should they occur.
Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to all members, coaches, volunteers, and anyone involved in our activities, on or off the premises, including competitions, social events, and training sessions.
Definition of Bullying
Bullying may involve, but is not limited to, the following behaviours:
Cyberbullying via digital platforms, text messaging, and social media.
Psychological bullying, such as spreading rumours, social exclusion, or intimidation.
Physical bullying, including pushing, hitting, or any use of physical force.
Verbal bullying, such as taunting, mocking, and derogatory comments.
Responsibilities
Child Welfare Officer
Ensures all reports of bullying are dealt with confidentially and effectively and supports those affected.
Coaches and Staff
Must lead by example, promote positive behaviour, and address any incidents of bullying promptly and effectively.
All Club Members
Responsible for maintaining a bully-free environment and reporting any bullying behaviour witnessed or experienced.
Prevention Strategies
Culture
Promotion of a team spirit that values cooperation and mutual respect, overseen by coaches and senior members.
Visibility
The anti-bullying policy will be posted on the club premises and the website to remind members of the club’s stance against bullying.
Education
Regular workshops and sessions for all club members highlighting the consequences of bullying, the importance of diversity, and the value of respect for others.
Reporting Procedures
Documentation
The club will securely maintain a record of the complaint, the investigation, and the outcome.
Investigation
All reported incidents will be investigated promptly and impartially, respecting the privacy and sensitivity of all individuals involved.
Confidentiality
Members can report bullying confidentially to any coach or directly to the Child Welfare Officer.
Response Procedures
Disciplinary Actions
By club rules, serious or repeated bullying may result in disciplinary actions, including suspension or expulsion.
Mediation
Where appropriate, mediation sessions will address conflicts and foster mutual understanding.
Immediate Action
Temporary separation of parties involved in the incident until a full review can be conducted.
Support for Victims
Follow-up
Regular check-ins with affected individuals to ensure their ongoing safety and comfort within the club.
Counselling
Referral to professional counselling services for victims of bullying.
Training
Regular Training
Coaches and staff will receive regular training on recognising bullying behaviours and effectively managing bullying incidents.
Review and Monitoring
Feedback
Encouragement of feedback from members on the policy’s effectiveness and suggestions for improvement.
Annual Review
The board of trustees will review this policy annually to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with current legal and ethical standards.
