Child Protection Policy
St.Albans City ABC is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children and vulnerable adults participating in our activities. We believe in creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where all members can develop their skills and confidence in boxing without fear of harm, abuse, or maltreatment. This policy outlines our approach to child protection and the measures to prevent, respond to, and manage safeguarding concerns.
Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, coaches, athletes, and participants involved in St.Albans City ABC activities, including training sessions, competitions, and events. It covers all forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and neglect.
Responsibilities
Coaches and Volunteers
Must maintain an up-to-date Enhanced DBS check, complete England Boxing’s safeguarding courses, and be familiar with the signs of abuse and neglect.
Club Members
All Club Members Must understand and comply with this policy and its procedures.
Child Welfare Officer (Tahir Ibrahim)
This officer is the first point of contact for any concerns about child welfare and ensures that all safeguarding issues are handled confidentially and effectively.
Head Coach
Oversees the implementation of training and adherence to safeguarding practices.
Protection Measures
Training
All club personnel must undergo regular safeguarding training. This includes recognising signs of abuse, understanding legal obligations, and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
Recruitment
All coaches and volunteers undergo a rigorous vetting process that includes Enhanced DBS checks, safeguarding training, and reference checks.
Reporting Procedures
External Reporting
Serious concerns are referred to local authorities or the police as the law requires.
Record Keeping
All concerns, discussions, and decisions regarding child welfare incidents are stored securely in writing.
Immediate Concerns
Any suspicions or disclosures of abuse must be reported immediately to the Child Welfare Officer or, in their absence, the nearest available senior coach.
Code of Conduct
One-on-One Situations
Private or unobservable one-on-one situations between coaches and athletes under 18 must be avoided for the athlete’s safety or well-being.
Appropriate Behavior
Physical contact during training must be necessary and appropriate to the sport of boxing and always conducted in an open environment.
Respect and Dignity
All interactions with children and vulnerable adults should be conducted with respect and dignity, ensuring all members feel valued and safe.
Review and Monitoring
Monitoring Compliance
The Child Welfare Officer will regularly monitor Compliance with this policy and report to the Board of Trustees.
Annual Review
This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect legislation and best practice changes.
